Clovis Invite: Reedy powers to 16:59, #5 time ever at Woodward Park state meet course

HIGHLIGHTS

GIRLS Indiv.: US#4 Buchanan sr Hagen Reedy continued to show why she belongs in the top five in the country with a smoking 16:59 for the Varsity 5,000 meters. The Woodward Park course is the same as used for the state meet. Reedy, 7th at the NXN Finals last fall, has lost only to US#1 Sarah Baxter this fall and her time is 5th fastest ever on the layout, according to Rich Gonzalez at prepcaltrack.com.

She was followed by Palisades Charter soph Marissa Williams (17:15), Dos Pueblos jr Addi Zerrenner (17:41) and Davis frosh Fiona O’Keeffe (17:42). Other top times were turned in by Amador Valley sr Jena Pianin (17:40) and Clovis frosh Mikayla Sodersten (17:41), who went 1-2 in the D1 race.

GIRLS Teams: Reedy’s Buchanan squad got the Varsity triumph with 93 points, averaging a meet best 18:27. They were followed by St. Francis (125), Davis (126) and Yucaipa (131). Redondo Union had the best showing in any other race, winning D1 with 71 points.

BOYS Indiv.: Dos Pueblos sr Bryan Fernandez added Clovis to his previous major victory at Woodbridge, clocking 15:09 in the Varsity division. He was followed by Long Beach Poly jr Miguel Bautista (15:20) and Stockdale sr Connor Fisher (15:26). 2011 Foot Locker finalist and St. John Bosco sr Myles Smith was second best for the day with 15:19 to win the D2 race over Granite Bay sr Trent Brendel (15:25). El Toro sr Juan Gonzalez took the D1 race in 15:22 over Godinez sr Jose Penaloza (15:27).

BOYS Teams: California HS of Whittier took the Varsity battle with 103 points, topping Trabuco Hills (114) and Dos Pueblos (132 and the top average of 15:52). Long Beach Poly (140), Dana Hills (151) and Glendora (177) followed. El Toro averaged 15:57 in taking D1 with 97 points and was 6th in the combined scoring, while St. John Bosco won D2 (7th combined) with 94 and a 16:01 average.
